Bidder "kmotion67" bid against him/herself on Oct. 5 from $2,300 up to $2,600 in $100 increments. What's the deal? Or do I not understand auction bidding?

      Kent,

Ebay allows you to set a proxy bid where you state your highest allowable bid. If the current bid is 2,000 and I said my maximum bid is 3,000, Ebay will make me the current high bidder with a bid of 2,050, and then automatically outbid any other bidders up to 3,000. In this case it appears other people placed 2,300 and 2,600 bids.

Does anyone know who Kmotion67 is? Is it the current owner or curator of the K'Motion 1967 L88?

      Best regards,
      Joel Falk

I bid on ebay for some items. I am amazed at how many times I'm outbid for items that sell for double or triple thier worth. I just bought a Chilton's for '53 - '62 Vettes NEW on Amazon for $12.95, a used copy on Ebay is going for $65.00 go figure... Yoy need to know the value of the item and also what it is worth to you.

              Joel,

My point was that he was the only bidder at the time, out bidding himself without competition. I simply don't understand that. If you bid $100 for something, wouldn't you wait until someone else bid higher to up your bid or would you raise your own bid without any competition? Am I missing something, DUH???

Kent - Joel's explanation covered it, ebay will "report" the bids (the ones that are automatically being placed by the person who has the higher bid, in response to a competing, lower bid) as if the original bidder alone was the one placing the bids

                  Kent,

That happens quite often when someone is trying to crack a reserve. Each time you up the bid, it becomes another bid. It looks like you are bidding against yourself.

Thanks for your enlightenment, Jerry. I never would have guessed the bidder was attempting to locate the seller's reserve. As you can probably tell, I don't ebay, ... yet. Jes' still learnin'.

                        Joel-----

I hope not. If he is then he doesn't know too much about Corvettes. All original L-88's had F-41 suspension and these are not F-41 shocks. They are standard suspension shocks.

Anybody willing to spend this kind of money for a set of USED, original shocks just has to have more dollars than sense. These shocks are ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL in configuration to the GM/Delco shocks sold until about 5 years ago. Only the "numbers" and "dates" are different. Why anyone would pay this kind of money for "numbers" and "dates" is absolutely beyond me.

                          Joe,

I believe the story on the KMotion car is that it started out as a 435/427 and the owner ordered and installed the L88 engine to go drag racing.

Don't know if the shocks would be considered correct for a 435 car, but the current owner is probably attempting to maintain the configuration as close as possible to it's racing configuration as a tribute to the original owner. He lost his life in Nam and never got to pursue racing the car much.

For what it's worth, Doc Rebuild has a video of the car on his web site. I do not know if the buyer of the shocks is the same person who currently own the car.

It may not be as I noticed the car in the video is named "Ko Motion" not "K Motion"

Looks like kmotion got out bid

With a last minute bid from a ebay dealer(?), with 3 seconds to go. $3050 final.
