Which fuel pump should be in a 1965 BB built on May 24th: 40248 or 40366? Thank you in advance for your help.

I agree Mike. Especially since the real genuine 65 pump is one of the most difficult to find of all. Discontinued probably by the late 60's, they're near impossible to find now.Comment

Just curious, does the AIM mention a change from the 40248 to the 40366 at some point in the 65 model year run? I was under the impression that the 40248 was used through the end of the 65 MY. (I'm probably wrong) I know of one 65 in the 19,xxx range that still had it's original 40248. Can't remember what the difference in appearance is though.Comment

The AIM lists only the 40248 fuel pump. The Technical Information Manual states that the early BB cars (the first month of production) used 40248, and the later cars used 40366. Paragon has the 40248 pumps being used in March - May cars, and 40366 in cars built in June and later. This is why I sked the question on which pump should be in a May 24th car.

I have to wonder where they came up with the info on the early change. Those pumps usually only lasted about 10 years so most had already been replaced with the 66 style by the time peoplke actually began gathering info/documentation on these cars. I've never seen anything in print on a change during the 65 run. I have a feeling this mystery may never be solved without some GM paperwork.
An original 65 pump that was replaced in 1972, for example, would certainly look like it had been there for a long time by the late 70's.
Are there pic's of both of the reproduction pumps on the Paragon site?Comment

There are no pictures of these pumps in the Paragon catalog. The 1965 judging manual states that on the 40248 the inlet tube points backward towards the right motor mount and the outlet block points forward towards the center of the radiator. Also, the inlet tube projects 1/4 inch below the bottom. On the second design 40366, the inlet tube projects 1 3/4 inches below the bottom. A square brass block connects to the main fuel supply rubber hose. Both pumps have "AC" embossed in the front and rear sides of the casting. The letter height is .25 inches.Comment

Sounds like the big difference is the length of the inlet tube, or it's location/distance off the bottom. That would certainly be easy to see.
Not sure what is meant by "a square brass block connects to the main fuel supply rubber hose". On the 40366, that block is steel and is connected to the pressure side, not the inlet side.Comment

I agree. The description in the judging manual doesn't make sense.
I have just noticed that LIC has "rebuilt originals" 40248 fuel pumps. Are the "rebuilt originals" safe and reliable?Comment

I don't know much about the reproduction but I have to guess they are assembled with quality components. Hopefully, someone can give us a report on one of these.
My 66 finally needed a fuel pump after all these years but I installed a currently available AC pump, even though it lacks the AC cast in the top.Comment
