C1 265 c.i. rear motor main seal

Am putting my 265 c.i. 210 HP motor back together and need a question answered. Is there a rear "rubber" main seal available for my motor instead of the "rope" type seal? Any recommendations or part #, etc? Thanks.

yes, a neoprene seal is available and is far superior to the old rope style. mike

Steve, try Eckler's or Paragon. They both carry a two-piece rubber seal and spring that is a good replacement for the rope seal. I installed it in my 59 283 and have not had any leaks in about 1,500 miles of driving so far. It's easy to install with the engine in the car and the removal of the oil pump and rear main lower bearing cap. Good luck.

I bought mine through www.classicchevy.com and saved a few bucks for my '55. Much better than a rope seal and easy install.
