    C2 Differential Carrier Bracket

Is there a way to remove the front differential carrier bracket bolts to lower the bracket without drilling a hole in the fiberglass floor as instructed in the shop manual? I want access to my pinion seal.

No. It seems to me that years ago I removed that bracket by disconnecting the spring bolts from the trailing arms and unbolting the bracket that holds the strut rods. It gave the rear end enough flex to pry down on the front and remove the bolt that is blocked by the fiberglass.

Dave, I once had a '63 coupe that BH ended up with that had a sheet metal plate above the differntial. I always though that was a nice touch and one of the reasons I sold the car.. Surely Ken's way has got to be better than cutting up the floor.Good meeting we had but the food was not that exciting. Mystery meat sauce. John

You can do the seal without removing it.

Dave you can pull down the front of the rear enough to get the front bolt out and then the bracket will swing down.Make sure you seal the threads on the pinon most of the time thats whats leaking not the seal. Ya got pull on the rear to get it down, but it will. Phil 8063

            Phil,

Thanks -- I thought this to be the case. I now remember about 5 years ago that in preparing to remove the rear end assembly from my 66 that I was able to pry the bracket down to remove both bolts and thus the bracket. I realize that I would only need to remove the front bolt to access the seal.
