I thought of something else...blue certification

label, on edge of driver's door. Usually shows VIN, and month/year produced. Hope this helps.

      Re: not restamped

      Steve,

Don't think what I'm saying is conflicting. If it's confusing, that's my whole point! Engine and transmission have May build dates. Trim tag says first week of June. But, engine and transmission have the VIN stamped on them that matches the windshield VIN. Problem is the registry I found says it's a February VIN. Does not look restamped, so how does a Feb VIN get on a May Drivetrain???

Trim tag dates different for 1970

        For Corvettes:

        For 1969, February was "G".

The 1970 model year started in January 1970, so February would have been "B", while "G" would have been July 1970.

If you're correct, there is a problem

If your info is correct, there is no easily explained way an engine assembled in May 1970 could have been instralled in a Feb 1970 car. Please post some numbers here so we can check your math - you don't have to post the full VIN of the car, just post like this---- #19xxx instead of #19286 for example.

            Re: not restamped

            Hey Tim,

If the engine (let's simplify a little) has a CASTING DATE of May 1970, and a stamped VIN, and engine assembly date/use code that are prior (February 1970), then it is a restamp.

There are people who can do restamps so good that they are virtually undetactable. Broach marks can also be recreated.

I hope that hasn't happened to you.

            Steve

PS: The engine pad should have 2 sets of numbers, one set from the engine plant (date assembled and use code) and one from the car plant (VIN derivative). The engine block should also have a casting date.

VERY SIMPLY: If the engine casting date postdates the engine assembly date, you have been ripped off.

              Re: 70 Z-28

              Tim -

What's the VIN on the instrument panel? What's embossed on the Fisher cowl trim tag? What's the block casting date and machine code stamp info and VIN derivative stamping on the block pad? Those are the basics required to unscramble what you have.

Have you been to the forum at www.nastyz28.com? That site is dedicated to the 2nd-generation Camaro, and there's LOTS of '70 Camaro knowledge/history/numbers there.
