    vacume advance identification

Does any one know which distributor a vacume control unit #201--15 is associated with, and what year it was utilized? Thanks in advance. Phil Anderson

Phil 201 15 was used on FI distributors for 63 1111022 Also used on the carb distributors 1111024. 63 and 64 carb distrs for sure. Had other applications also. My 63 FI car has that vacuum advance. GM replacments were the 163 15's known as 1116163 or D1328. Lot of show cars I see have this one and it is a service replacment (SR) John

It's a reasonably common advance, Phil. For Corvette, it was used '63-64 on 250/300 HP small blocks and also on '65-67 BB's with 425 & 435 HP ratings. Part was also common to MANY other GM cars and trucks...

But I don't think is was available through service parts, or maybe only for a short time. Like John said, if you ordered a replacement for an original 201 application, you got a 163.

          Duke and Phil-----

The GM #1116201 vacuum control was available in SERVICE from late 1961 through January, 1965 when it was replaced by the GM #1116163. However, the 1116201 was used in PRODUCTION after it ceased to be available in SERVICE.

Service 201 vacuum advances may be different than he production ones in the early years. The production 63 vacuum advance is a two piece one. Two piece means the short hose connector tube is soldered on the "real deal" ones and not the service replacement ones. This little detail does not seem to be known by many though. Learned this from Don Baker just a few years ago. Used to think that a 201 was a 201 but it just isn't so. Configuration on front of the can may be different also on the earlier style. A correctly restored 63 distributor would then have a two piece vacuum advance. These are rare pieces. Look thru your junkers as you can have them rebuilt albeit not cheap. I believe Dave Fiedler, the TI guy can get them rebuilt for you. Free plug David. John
