TI Box and Lower Valance Fasteners...??

    Hello,

Hope I can get these simple questions answered, coz it's not listed in the TIM&JG. This is for a 1970.

On page 95, about the Valance, it does not specify what type of "hardware" is supposed to hold the Valance in place. What type of fasteners are used to hold this Valance to the body ? Phillips, etc. ???

Also, what are the correct fasteners used to hold the TI Box to the wheel well ?

Don't pound on me too hard for not having the Assembly book.....sorry, just a Vette guy looking for some help. Thanks in advance.

Re: TI Box and Lower Valance Fasteners...??

Mark, I can help you more with the valance hardware question than the TI fasteners.

The lower valance is attached with four 1/4"-20 X 5/8" long hex head bolts with integral washer, and four flanged hex nuts. Two different head stamps were used on my late 70: (1) E with three radial lines at 12, 6, and 9 o'clock, and (2) E in a circle with radial lines at 12, 3, and 6 o'clock. Finish on bolts and nuts is black phosphate. The lower bumper guard bolts also pass through the valance.

The AIM shows the end bolts inserted throught the valance from the bottom with nuts on top inside the fiberglass lower fascia. In the next hole toward the center, the AIM is different from original cars: the AIM shows the bolts inserted from the front with the nuts on the back of the valance...original cars show the valance was actually attached by inserting the inner bolts from the rear with the nuts on the front.

On the TI box, the AIM shows it being attached by bolt (PN 9419006), split lock washer (PN 103319) and nut (PN 9419912). From other applications, I can tell you the lock washer is a standard split lock washer for a 1/4" fastener, and the finish is black phosphate...it's fair to assume the other two components are also black phosphate. The hex nut is probably a standard 1/4" hex nut. Sorry, I can't help with the bolt length.
