    C2 headlight door questions

I've put this job off for long enough. I finally got the area spruced up and presentable and I am fixing to tackle putting my freshly painted headlight buckets and all new parts back in. I have the GM metal bearings (balls) as well as the aftermarket nylon versions. Is there any advantage to using the nylon ones? What about the proper lubrication for the bearings. Not sure what the factory used here.

Any help, suggestions, and moral support would be appreciated.

    BL,

The metal bearings had a tendancy to corrode, rather quickly. I think it's because of dis-similar metals rubbing against each other, a litlle moisture and electrolisis starts.

I assembled mine with the nylon bearings and white lithium grease.

    Hope this helps.

      Bryan -

The felt seals inboard of each bearing were dunked in oil prior to installation at the plant, and that was the only lubrication done at assembly; considering the care our cars get, that should be adequate if your bearings are in good shape and rotate freely.

Bryan, protect the headlight doors. If it doesn't bother you, cover them in the blue masking tape that painters use. Not too much glue on that tape. I assume you have all the bumbers, brackets and grill work removed. I also would remove the two front end support rods/brackets that go from the bottom of the radiator to the area just next to the headlights. Essentially, get everything out of the way. Lastly, get a helper!!!!!!!!!! Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks for the helpful advice guys. Didn't think about needing a helper, that won't be possible until Sat. Guess I'll get everything cleaned, lubed, taped off, and laid out while I wait for my dad to make it over this weekend. Sure don't want any OOPS and then have to respray something.
