I agree with you - if that means anything.

Put the Driveline on-line and "release" it a predetermined precommunicated time - ie. midnight EST first of the month. That way everyone gets an equal chance to obtain scarce parts, cars, etc.

As in all facets of life - it takes a lot of effort to break-free the inertia.

Well now I really feel like the perverbial mushroom! August has come and gone Tracy, have you heard anything? I'll bet not.

I would strongly suggest that the "team" keep the membership in the loop both through the Restorer AND right here on the tech board. A ton of grousing could be avoided if the membership is kept informed as to the progress of this endevor.

Ahh, whatever, I've got it off my chest for another month or so!

Why not...

ask your elected Regional Representative for a report? Heck, he's supposed to be your representative. Ours, Howard Loomis, periodically attends Chapter Meetings and updates us on what can be told... Remember, some BoD (Board of Directors) business is exploratory in nature and deserves closed door privacy so the various 'what if' scenarios can be run to ground without rumor circulation.

Last July our chapter was asked by our Chapter President if we had any questions for the Regional Representative to ask the NCRS President at the Board Meeting at the San Antonio Nationals in early August. My question was... what is the status of the Electronic Driveline? Since it was stated that the President wanted the comments in time for this meeting, I expected to hear some news.

The "news" that I received was that the Electronic Driveline is still under study, or maybe that is the "no action alternative". PT

The solution to this issue is actually pretty simple. Ask you elected representatives to push this issue, AND GET BACK TO YOU ASAP. If they don't, elect somebody else next time. I personally would like to know where each and every board member stands on this issue.

On line would be OK but it should also start by the format being changed so the parts are listed by the ( C-1) groups. The sellers could pick the group their parts are correct for and would be much eaiser for the buyer to check on what he is looking for. We all know the number of people who go to regionals or nationals is small compared to the membership. I think it is the same for this web site. I think more people would read the driveline ads on line than go to regionals. Ed has the right idea see where your regional rep stands on this issue. The more support the better the chance but I think this group is not very large and my guess is less than 1000.

The last time...

this issue was looked at (ten years ago?), the BoD authorized a working committee to study, report and make recomendations. The committee 'met' using a specially fabricated, limited access, cookie/password protected 'mirror' of the Discussion Board where committee members could interact (time available basis) and discuss alternatives. John Waggoner served as the committee moderator to focus and pace the discussions as well as to provide cost/feasibility analysis for the 'what if' issues that were raised.

If memory serves, that effort took 3-6 months to complete and the committee to report out its recommendations. I won't go into the details of what was discussed nor what was finally recommended as that's BoD business.

I bring this matter up in, general, to let you know the BoD DOES take these 'go do' issues seriously and to point out that this web site does more than just host our Discussion Board and promote NCRS...

I appreciate your filling me in.

But with all due respect, the membership should be kept informed as to the process and progress of this proposed new venue so as to keep guys like me in check.

I shouldn't have to resort to sabre rattling to get some kind of feedback. There should be a link that members could access to read what is happening during this fact finding process.

I really don't understand what all the cloak and dagger mystery is to these meetings, but I'm sure that there must be a reason.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over this Jack, it just seems a bit over the top for what it's worth.

Jack..I am curious what you mean by Board of Directors business. Can you site an example ..even unrelated if necessary..so I can better understand what this means?

Lets say..long term contracts were signed with printers or others..that could delay upgrading to an On-Line Driveline. If something like that is the case..why not treat the members like partners and advise them as such.

Well, issues like:

(1) Whats the impact on file storage cost to NCRS if we allow ?members to post pictures?

(2) Heck, if we allow them to post pictures, why not let them post full video clips with sound?

(3) How long should ads run?

(4) Right now Driveline circulation is restricted to NCRS club members while the DB is open to any/all. Do we open the on-line Driveline partially or totally to none club members?

(5) How do we 'police' ad insertions? Right now all insertions run through an editor...

(6) If we allow open ad posting, how do we automate the validation of a member's membership-paid status? What if his/her membership is scheduled to lapse during the course of the ad?

(7) What do we do about the older members who don't have a computer, don't want a computer and want a hard copy to take into the bathroom, bedroom, Etc. to read? Will they resent the 'young whippersnappers' having an 'unfair advantage' of access to the parts being run on-line? Hey, they're club members too!

(8) Should we totally do away with printing Driveline to actually reap the benefits of cost saving?

With any issue dealing with change there are a LOT of 'what if' questions that need to be kicked around, modeled, considered, and decided on. Some sound easy enough, but when you start digging into things, it become apparent there's the potential for political impact...

Deciding what's best for the MAJORITY of NCRS club members isn't always a black and white situation! That's why there's a need for privacy on things like this...

I suggest a survey be sent along with the next Restorer or Driveline..so the membership can voice their opinion.

This way..the BOD will get a cross section of member responses to draw from.

New members and older members alike!
