Has anyone tried some of the new spray paints that are for plastics? I'm thinking of spraying my windshield and headlight washer plastic fittings on my wiper motor and thought that this might be the way to go. I'm not sure what paint would look like but it has to be better than the old yellow plastic. Can it be applied in such a way that I don't take a point hit?
The paints work very well. However, they won't work very well, at all, on the originally "white" components of the washer system. Nothing will adhere well to this type of plastic.
Besides the above, and even though I've not tried it, I can virtually guarantee you that any parts that are painted are going to look like they were painted. So, I fully expect that a point deduction will ensue.
Joe's right on the judging deductions...the pumps were never painted, and you ain't going to conceal painting. Since the paint obscures the surface, the finish/color can't be judged. A lenient judge may give you some originality for it having the shape of a pump, but it will be better to throw yourself on the mercy of the court...they all know the pumps turn yellow with age...they also know they're not judging a brand new car; you'll lose some condition points, and fewer originality points.
