    Starter Date code

I am going to be ordering a rebuilt dated starter from CC (338). From the birthdate of the car, how many days back is acceptable for the date code of the starter build date to be with in. I think I read that it should be within 6 months is acceptable for judging, the closer to the cars B-day is better, with in reason?????

    Re: Starter Date code

David. My original starter is date coded May 31, 1967 (7E31) and my car's birthday is June 12, 1967. Hope this helps.

My 67 L-79 has a May 9,1967 dated Delco-Remy starter and the cars birthdate is June 17,1967.

        Re: Starter Date code

Starter was 'introduced' to the engine at the final assy line. Therefore, acceptable dating preceeds the car's build date (NOT engine assy date) by 0-6 months with the interval of 2-8 weeks being most normal.
