    '65 oil pressure gauge - 60 or 80psi?

    Hello,

my '65 Corvette (Serial # 48) has got a 300 hp original engine and a 80 psi oil pressure gauge. According to my limited knowledge this should be a 60 psi gauge.
Am I right - or is my car right :-) ?

    Regards
    Oliver

    Oliver,

Yes, it should be the 60 psi gauge. It should also have the 5500 rpm redline tach.

Then there's the 66 390 HP 427 with hyd lifters that used an 80# ga. It all gets pretty confusing. What about 64?

What 64s are you talking about? Mike Ive seen 66 390s with 80lbs but was not 100% sure they were orig. is it your under standing that all 390hp had the 80lb gauge or could it go both ways. Thanks Phil 8063

            Phil,

I suppose it's possible that some 66 390 HP 427 cars were originally equipped with 60 Lb guages but I've never seen one that I thought was original. Every unrestored car that we see has an 80 Lb. I think several cars have been changed to 60 Lb to align with one of the previous 66 judging guides but I believe that has been corrected?

There was an in depth discussion here on the board about a year ago on this subject. No one with an unrestored car claimed to have a 60 Lb guage as I remember.

              Thanks Mike

Sometimes too much knowledge is not a good thing, some folks build their cars to the manual and they are not correct or its a type 0 and the poor guy follows the guide down the wrong road. Phil 8063
