    C-4 dashboard coolant light

The dashboard coolant light comes on despte plenty of coolant and a temperature range (180-220)I'm not necessarily worried about overheating but the light is annoyinying and the light on the dash gets very hot. Please! Any suggestions? thanks.

I do not know which c4 you have. The Helm, Inc. shop manual for my '84 says that the 3 warning lights on the information display area actually have 5 functions. Oil pressure, oil temp, coolant temp, system voltage, and low fuel. The low fuel apparently is important enough to have a light all to itself, but the other 2 lights are shared: 1 for the oil pressure/oil temp, and the other for coolant temp and system voltage. Perhaps the coolant temp is not the reason the light comes on - check system voltage to see.

I assume you are referring to the LOW COOLANT message that appears on the information display. At least on the 1986 model and perhaps others, they have a history of being too sensitive. The sensor is located on the passenger side in the upper part of the radiator. It is easily replaced and may solve your problem. I replaced mine a couple of years ago and it is now starting to come on briefly again so I may have to replace it again if it gets worse.

Jeffrey: My '86 coupe had the "low coolant" light problem in the past. The sensor tends to be too sensitive and will light even when the radiator appears full. I read of a solution. I tried it and it worked. With the engine cool, start it up and remove the radiator cap. With one hand accelerate the engine slightly. The coolant level in the radiator will go down. While accelerating, pour additional coolant into the radiator to fill it and then raplace the cap before releasing the accelerator. I have had to do this every time I drained and refilled the radiator.
