    1970 Goodyear DOT codes

Need help decoding dates. I realize this has been discussed many times and I've viewed every thread in the archives but find no codes other than 67, 68, 69 and then the new 11 digit in 1971. It appears the month codes for Goodyears in 69 don't apply to 1970 since no "H" is listed. OR, the 1970 code is entirely different than earlier. I have AHNPLJD1, APNBLJD1 and BENBLJD1. The AH tires are original to my March built 9k mile '70 LT1. I assume A is the 1970 code, possibly B, too? Anyone want to give some help with the dates on these? Thanks.

Yes, there is a different Good Year code for pre-1970 and then one for 1970 and that part of 1971 that used the manufacturers code. BTW: These are NOT DOT codes. They are propriety to the tire manufacturer, which is why they are published in limited places. The 11 (and now 12) digit code IS a DOT code, however.

As I suspected, unique mfr's code for 1970. Fine. Now, what are the date breakdowns? It appears first two characters are year and month as in 67, 68, 69. Anyone know the code and care to share??

Prior to DOT standardization of the code sequence in '71, the DOT required each mfgr to devise his own system to track various information bits (mfgr, mfg site, style/type of rubber, date, Etc.). The mfgrs were never required to release their particular coding system (unless requested by the DOT in a particular follow-up investigation) and they treated the marking sequece as company proprietary information. Also, given mfgrs changed their coding sequence over the years ('68 beginning of DOT requirement to calendar year '71, beginning of standardized sequence).

The info you seek (how do I decode this particular sequence) is NOT available in public domain. Some have gotten this/that mfgr's sequence decoding info, but maintain the in confidence...

The 67,8,9 is published. The '71 and up info is known. Only the month codes are not known to me for '70. I'll work on it.
