    1959 corvette stamped&casting#s

I need to decode some #s. First is the stamped code on the right front of the block (T70ID)-Casting# on the left rear of block#3756519-Date codeF2958. CYL. Head 460 on the intake runner-date code F2958. Can anybody tell me what year-cuin and hp this motor is and any other info. Thanks Mario.

    Mario-----

The block casting is a 283 which was used from 1959 through 1961. This particular block was cast on June 29, 1958 for installation in a very early 1958 model car. It was cast at the Tonawanda foundry so it was never originally used in a Corvette. The heads were cast on the same day.

I don't have any information on an "ID" suffix code for 1959, so I can't tell you the original specific application for the engine.

Yes, 283 cu. in.Tonawanda block, cast June 29, 1958. If the stamp pad reads T701D, then the engine was assembled on July 1, 1958. The "D" was for 185 hp, 2 barrel carb, powerglide for a passenger car. Wayne Loron#4921
