I have purchasd remanufactured brake calipers from Vette Products for my '69. They are reconditioned in a silver cast iron color. After reviewing the NCRS Judging Manual, I realize that the proper color for the calipers is low gloss black. Before they are painted, I wanted to double check with other members. Should I paint them? If so, is low gloss the same as satin? Bryan #33360

Re: '69 brake calipers
I have had the best luck painting calipers with Rust Oleum applied with a brush. I mix their gloss with flat to provide a low gloss. Purchase the small cans (approx. 4 ounces) and mix via trial and error to get the proper sheen. I found approximately 40% gloss and 60% flat is best. This will provide a much mor serviceable finish than Krylon spray and is easy to apply. Good Luck- Top

Re: '69 brake calipers *TL*
Low gloss black is available at your friendly Mr. Goodwrench parts counter. It is intended to paint the more modern engines than in our cars. It also works well for brake master cylinders.
If preparing car for judging: for both calipers and master cylinders - be aware of the bare machined surfaces and try to leave them that way.
