    63 FI Distributor

Im using this distributor in a 63 FI. motor. What i need to know is what this is out of and what were the correct mech. curve (ie.18deg. in @ 2800rpm) and vac.curve (ie total deg. of adv. for the vac. unit) for the 63 FI.motor. The #s on the cover read-Model#1111022-Serial# 2 M 19.This# is cast under the head-1961253, And who has a gasket/seal kit for this. Thanks Mario.

the 022 is a 63 FI distributor. it was stamped on Dec 19th , 1962. you ought to put it on an old Sun Distributo machine top determine the advance characteristics as Bubba's have been know to change springs, counterweights, bushings and vac cans. good luck, mike

The 022 distributor has a #54 mechanical advance cam on top of the mainshaft. The advance weights have #37 stamped on the underside (usually). The rotating point cam is #724 (stamped on the underside). The vacuum advance canister is #201 15 (stamped on the bracket). I've never found a GM reference showing these numbers. They are from my observations.

This distributor has the following mechanical advance specs: 0 degrees @ 700 rpm , and 24 @ 4,600. The stock vacuum canister has 0 degrees @ 8" mercury, and 15 @ 15.5". These figures are from a chart in the rear of the 1963 Corvette Shop Manual, ST 21.

If your 022 distributor has all its original parts and checks out to be working properly, then it is probably the only used 022 on earth that hasn't been monkeyed with by the Mr. Gasket Cult.

        Re: 63 FI Distributor

        Jerry,

As might be expected, my '024 distributor (300hp) has those same same numbered pieces (main shaft autocam, weights, points cam). Glad to find I have the right items. I say expected since the same advance curve stats are shown for both units.

You would think there would be Delco documentation out there somewhere that captures these component numbers.

Strange that the same curve was used for all four engines that year. The '64 and later specs show curves more taylored to each engine's performance level.

Were distibutor curves prior to '63 also common between base and hp engines?

        Chris

          No, not always.

Some advance parts were shared between distributors, but many were not.
