I don't think cigarrette lighters are date coded, but what you have to watch out for is the little white circle on the top of the knob. It is my understanding that the reproductions do not have the white circle, while the originals do. I have one of each for my '74 (repro and original) and I can't find any date code, but the circle thing holds true. Jeff

I believe the cigarette lighters are date coded (sort of). The lighter element is dated 63 for usage in 1963 to 1977? Corvettes (and maybe other GM cars); thereafter, lighter elements used are dated 78 for 1978 to 19?? .

I went out to grab mine out of my 70 Corvette and on the element is stamped: 63 CASCO 12V

The correct element for a 63 thru 72 Corvette is stamped Casco 63 12V. I have seen Casco 73 dates also which would lead you to that being correct for 73 up cars

CASCO 63 12V is the right lighter for all the reasons Tony & Dave are telling you. There is no 70, but there is 72 - but that will not fit your car if it has the original receiver. There are also other years, but it is not a date in the sense you are thinking of, as someone said it is the date of initial introduction for that style. Another of the many mysteries of these (and other GM) cars..

Believe the 'date code' deals with first date of introduction along with body style (geometry). Straight axle cars appear to read 'Casco 12V'. With the introduction of the mid-year in '63, '63 Casco 12V' legend appears.

My 'collection' also has '72' '73' and '78' Casco elements in it. Only the '63' '73' and '78' Casco bodies share interchangeable geometry. The '72' Casco elements parallel the longer body style of undated/early elements.
