    C3/rear spring

Discovered today that I have a 7 leaf rear spring and should have a 9 leaf spring. Is eaton spring still the place to go for correct spring. 71 small block rag top. Thanks Ed

    ED------

My feeling is that Eaton is the best source for the spring. It won't be a perfect reproduction, but it will be "close" and it will fit and function perfectly. Reports that I have received and inspections that I have made of cars with this spring installed seem to support the fact that it achieves correct ride height.

      only the original is "correct"

The repros all have some differences that will get a minor points deduction. The only truly "correct" spring is the original 9 leaf. Not to worry, there were TONS of the 9 leaf springs made (the 7 leaf ones are much harder to get). There was a recent Restorer article that showed the differences in the 9 leaf springs from 63 to 78. You can get a good core and restore it yourself.

Re: only the original is "correct"

Here are some photos and information about the restoration I did on my '70 rear spring. I ended up getting a few used springs, taking them apart and piecing together one that gave the car the proper ride height. There are some subtle differences in the liners between repro and originals.

I put an Eaton spring in my 72 this past winter and I was happy with it.
It did ride 2" high so I took it to a spring shop near by and the took care of that. The ride hight is great now. The spring also comes with this melted liner stuff on it wich is a little bit time consomming to get off but when you do Quanta has the best liners (I think).

Thanks guys all the info helped I think. Not sure I like hearing 2" high ride height. That is the problem I have now with the 7 leaf. I got a Quote on an eaton spring that was alot higher than corvette central. I wonder who makes there springs? Ed
