    67 Trailing Arm Replacement

    Are any special tools or gauges required to swap out a bad trailing arm for a 67 and reuse the spindle/bearing assembly?
    Are they press fit and can they be refitted incorrectly or only go in one way?
    A friend has a 67 that needs only the trailing arm replaced and he wants to reuse his spindles and I don't know the answers to these questions as I replaced my entire assemblies complete on my 68.

    It depends. If he has the spindle still riveted to the rotor and he wishes to maintain that circumstance, then it cannot be done without special tools. The special tools then required are all of those used to remove and re-install the spindle. This is an expensive set of tools. Or, he could take it to someone that has the tools and let them do it. That would be the best way. Just make sure that he tells them that they MUST keep the spindle and rotor riveted together.

    IF the spindle and rotor have been previously seperated, then it is possible to remove the spindle support/spindle assembly from the trailing arm without removing the spindle from the support, including all that operation entails. However, one must be adroit at removing the parking brake assembly and re-installing it with the spindle installed in the support. This can be done, but it's tricky. A special tool is available for a very nominal cost (just $5-10) which is a great aid with removing and re-installing the parking brake shoe retaining springs.
