A O Smith-Sidepipes- and Judging???????

Are most NCRS judges now giving total deduct on sidepipe AO Smith cars? It does not say in the JG that AO Smith cars should get a deduct for sidepipes.

What can I expect when I get my AO sidepipe 66 judged? What should I do on this when I am judging at our meets??

It has been pretty well verified that no AO smith cars were produced with sidepipes. A close look at the supports under the door will be missing the indications of a sidepipe car, among other things. That essentially means the car will not get credit for exhaust pipes and mufflers, Rocker moldings, Rear valence and bezels, Hangers and supports, and if properly done, will also lose credit for the lack of rubber seals on the underbody closeout panels (not installed on sidepipe cars) and other items I'm probably forgetting. At least three of the major juding areas are involved, Chassis, Mech, and exterior, so items add up. As to what should you do when judging a car? If you have a question as to a car being an original sidepipe car, talk to your team leader. If it is presented differently than it was as originally built, just follow the Judging Guide. If a part is not present, it can't be given credit for originality nor condition. If it is your car being judged, just read the manual and understand the ramifications. If serious about showing the car as a restoration, it can be changed back to original configuration if you desire...

they should give you a total deduct in points for both lack of under car exhaust and no rocker panel moldings

Let me ask it another way. Are NCRS judges auomatically, no deliberation, no questions asked, giving full exhaust deduct (whatever that is) if they see sidepipes on an AO midyear? We need to discuss this in our chapter meeting.

I can only speak for myself, but if I see sidepipes on an A.O. Smith bodied-car, it's going to get deductions for all the undercar exhaust-related parts that are missing; haven't seen one in a while, but when you add up all the bits and pieces, it's around 90+ points. Ouch

Jerry, I think that is pretty much universal on the judging field. Has been that way for several years.

I have never seen it happen at the chapter level in my years, so I was curious when I saw some reference in other posts regarding this.

If it is a proven fact, not not just hearsay, wonder why is it not yet in the judging manual? The 66 JM was just revised recently and yet there is no mention of it. Do you think the JM will change next time?

My friend has an AO sidepipe DUNTOV car and it has always had sidepipes. There were no deducts at any level. It does not seem to be 100% universal with all judges I guess.
