    88 C-4 BELT QUESTION?

I have an 88 that I need to put the correct belt on.The judging manual say's the belt should be part#14092--- with a code of UXW.I have a G.M. service part's book that say's the UXW code is for an 85 and only an 85.The G.M. part's manual say's the code for the 88-91 is the same and it is UJL. who is correct?I ordered the 88-91 belt part# 10105314 and code UJL from my local Chevy dealer today.Any help will be appreciated.Tom

    Re: 88 C-4 BELT QUESTION?

    Tom-----

The parts catalog is correct and the JG is incorrect. The GM #14092306 is applicable to 1985 only. As a matter of fact, it's not even the original belt used for 1985; it's SERVICE-only for that application. The original 1985 belt was GM #14085719.

The 88-91 belt is coded "UJL". For the 1988 model year this belt was GM #10055747. The GM #10055747 was used in PRODUCTION for 88-89 models and was superceded for 90-91 PRODUCTION and 88-89 SERVICE by GM #10105314.

As a matter of fact, the GM# 10105314 belt was discontinued in September, 1996 and replaced at that time by GM #24505041. That part was discontinued in the last year, or so, and replaced by GM #12576450. So, unless the dealer is getting you a belt out of old stock (more than 10 years old), you'll be getting the GM #12576450.

By the way, this brings up a point: if folks think that C1, C2, and C3 Corvette restoration is complex and difficult, wait until they see what C4 restoration is going to be like. It will make earlier Corvette restoration look like child's play.

      Joe
Thank's for the response. You came through again as alway's.I ordered the belt part# 10105314 and the part's guy said it was superceded, but I did not write down the new part# or should I say newer part #. I have had experience with C-3'S and some C-2'S,but as you said the C-4's are going to be a totaly new ball game.Mine is almost perfect and I am having problem's getting what few item's I need.A lot of the part's are discontinued from G.M. and there are no repop's. Thank's again Joe. Tom Stanton #41491
