Hi has anyone used a tool to remove the dents on the C2 C3 etc front cross member that are caused by a bottle or floor jack? I heard someone rents it or sells it. I usually cut it out in the groves, fix it and weld it back in, but Iam open to a better way if this tool works well. Thanks Phil 8063

Re: C2 Front cross member dent tool
call me lazy or what ever---i use a big fat phone book "if" i'm in a hurry and don't want to use my hoist---if you are relegated to a floor jack i would invest some time and make a block as you suggested---good luck- Top

You're in luck. The designer and manufacturer of the tool is a frequent visitor and poster to this board, so you have a contact and an "in". If I recall correctly it's Terry #21624.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Randy-----
The way to avoid denting the crossmember is very simple; I wish folks in dealerships and repair shops had figured it out a long time ago. If they had, there would be a whole lot fewer dents to fix today.
Anyway, all you have to do is use a thick piece of wood that spans the front crossmember from front to rear (a 2 X 6 or 2 X 8 about 18" long works nicely). Place the jack saddle at the center of the wood. This arrangement causes the weight to be borne by the strong front and rear edges of the front crossmember and NOT by the thin sheetmetal that covers the bottom of the crossmember. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C2 Front cross member dent tool
Phil,
I have used this tool and it works very well. It will do small dents cold, but larger/multiple dents will require heat.
Keep in mind the tool slides in through the spring pocket, at least one spring will need to be removed to use this device.
Hope this helps.
