    Daydreaming about a PV!

I was reading through the PV manual I recently ordered and got to the acceleration test part of the 10 mile drive where it says something like....accelerate briskly at full throttle to 90% of redline, shift, and do it again!

Sunday, my wife and I were out for a drive in our recently restored base motor '66 and thought we'd "practice" that! What a thrill and with only 300hp! I can only wonder what that feels (and sounds) like in an L88 or any other high HP car? Surely that's one of the benefits of being a PV judge!

being a PV judge is in fact sometimes very thrilling, especially when the driver/owner is driving his professionaly restored midyear big block for the first time.or the time a piece of lumber fell off an oncoming pickup and was heading for the 64 coupe's windshield. on the other hand, as a driver/owner of my amateurishly restored c-1's and c-2's, i've been know to thrill a couple of team leaders conducting my PV test. No other car club i belong to has anything comparable to NCRS's PV test.mikie

      Re: Daydreaming about a PV!

I always think about the 69 L/88 owner that was going through the driving portion. I told him I wanted to see the 90% of redline. (6,500 X 90%=5,850) Well we saw the 90%, then 100%, then on the way to 110%. I told him enough. He had the grin that wrapped around his head at least twice. Finally I had to YELL at him before he grenaded the engine. I am guessing he was turning about 7,500 rpm's.

And then there was the PV conducted in Williamsburg a few years ago. Owner was about 1 or 2 short of a full deck when he got behind the steering wheel. He showed at least 110% of redline (in 3rd gear '65 396 geared 4.11) Judge was about to panic. Came time for them to turn around and go back to the show field. Owner put the car in a full throttle powerslide in a parking lot and out into the highway they went. PV Judge came back in screaming "That %^$& is crazy" We were all laughing our heads off. Today a stunt like that would be an automatic failure.

Try this on a PG car with 3.08 rear gears! Deos anybody want to guess what 90% of redline is equal to in MPH on a city street! I think I made my PV judge poop his pants. LOL

I remember one of our now deceased team leaders telling the owner of a spectacular '67 435hp 427 "Now John, if you scare me, I FLUNK you!" Seems like Lancaster when I pv'd my 65 Fueler with Carl Strohm. Long time ago now...

And I am sure that you remember the deceased member that conducted the PV that I was talking about. He went straight to the bar and stayed the rest of the day. Scared to death
