finally got the new speaker and installed it no music ! ! ! had benched tested the radio good prior to installing---found the culprit to be the antena---it had been bubbaized about 3 inches from the radio end lead---ok no problem i'll just fix it---i removed the lead from the male connector and low and behold i found what i think is a diode marked as follows---MIAL 150 5%---rang it out and it is open in both directions---plan on removing it and get on with life---any thoughts out there ? ?

Re: c2 diode in antena lead ???bad no reception
Phil, you sure that's not a capacitor? The 5% is usually a tolerance value listed on capacitors and resistors. The resistor would show resistance unless blown. The capacitor would look open if it is functioning correctly, and a diode would read open in one direction only, unless it is blown. Sometimes people put caps in the antenna lead to filter out certain RFI, or radio frequency interference. Depending on the value, it should pass an RF signal. I would remove it and see what happens.

Re: c2 diode in antena lead ???bad no reception
thanks for the input---jack and i have emailed about this he says cap---note i told jack this is out of a non molested 67 antena lead at the radio end---i have a second car i'm working on with an original lead assy---bow tie cast into mast end---i think i will open it up and see what is in it and keep you and jack posted---the component looks "crystal--glass" with red band at the radio end---i know i'm looking at fly sh$it mixed with pepper but it stimulates our brains---i mean no disrespect to anyone---thanks,phil- Top
