I am looking for someplace in Canada to get parts for my'61.I am tired of paying all the fees to import from U.S.A.I am looking for Valve cover bolts for 283-230HP and a temp sender wire. Any ideas of suppliers? Thanks Ron

Have you checked the auto junk/recycle facilities around your area? There is a steel meltdown plant near me and I see flattened cars on flat-bed semi trailers going to this place all the time. There are a few other places opposite direction where people drag in cars to sell to for salvage.

Ron, is there a exclusion on tax and fees for antiques coming across the border? When I lived in Europe I used to have the senden mark the package USED PARTS or ANTIQUES and the tax and fees were avoided.

            The BIIIIIIIIG mistake most of

us Canajuns make is allowing vendors to use UPS or FedEX to ship our goods. These robbing bastiges stick a huge import 'brokerage' fee of at least $ 30 on each package they handle, even if the goods are duty and tax free.

If they won't use USPS/Canada Post, either choose a different vendor, or find a way to pick the goods up on the US side of the border and clear them yourself. Canada Post charges a flat 5 bucks for import fees, if there's any taxes to pay.

If you're near Munnreall or Tawrana, there's Corvette parts shops that will sell you stuff usually cheaper than you can import it yourself.

                    Ron,

From my recent experience your first mistake was using Paragon. The second time that I delt with them I placed a good sized order dollar value wise and wrote on the order form in large letters to use USPS only and NOT UPS. Well guess what, instead of one 30 lb box via USPS I got three boxes via UPS! At first they credited my card a small amount because they said I didn't include any shipping instructions so at that point I wasn't 100% sure that I did in deed put my shipping instructions on the order so I took some responsibility for the mix up. A day or so later I noticed that the invoice DID have my shipping instructions on it! I contacted him again(think his name was David) and he agreed that they made a mistake and offered a very small additional credit. I said that now that he admitted that it was his mistake that they should cover the remainder of the brokerage fees(about $50) because had it been shipped as per my instruction there wouldn't have been any brokerage fees! He then accused me of "trying to take advantage of the situation" and I told him that if that was how he felt then he should keep the $20 or so that he was going to give me and use it take someone out for a beer! I guess that extra $30 meant more to him than I thought because he chose that over any future business from me.

Anyways the moral of my story is Paragon was VERY expensive to use due to their shipping department so they are not the best option at all if you are in Canada.

I have however had very good luck with ZIP. They too made a mistake on my very first order but fully claimed responsibility and settled the issue professionally. Orders from them since then have been great and they DO go the extra mile to keep shipping and brokerage fees to a minimum for us Canadians.

Now I have not used Corvette Central but I hear the they act as the broker for free so there shouldn't be any brokerage fees if they are used.

Most of the vendors don't like to ship big dollar orders USPS because it can't be tracked once it crosses the border but smaller orders can often be shipped with no concern. It's up to the buyer if he wants to "risk" his large order with USPS but I personally have never had a problem...and that includes ebay items too!

Bottom line is to try and use USPS when ever possible because out of the past 9 shippments that I have had sent up here only one had a fee on it and it was less than $10! It's unfortunate but I will not use vendors that only use UPS to Canada like Dr Rebuild. I say unfortunate because they WOULD be my first choice...I just can't stomach any more of those UPS fees though!

Re: Thanks for all your replys!!!

I have been using Corvette Central as they are a registered broker and they collects the GST at point of sale (no brokerage fees!) I find their prices in line with most of the other suppliers I have used and have been happy with the parts I have used to date. I even had an occasion to make a multiple part order only to find when I received the first package that the other two item swere back ordered, I was very worried that I would end up paying multiple shipping costs etc... however no additioal charges were incurred on the other TWO shipments.

I have been told by other locals that paragon WILL ship via US post if specifically requested to do so (to avoid brokerage), however I was also warned to request that only complete orders be shipped or you may end up paying multiple shipping costs...

                          have a good one eh...

                            Ship to US address

Ron I live in Niagara Falls Canada and the are several places that will receive your parcels in the US and hod them for pick up. Shipping in the US is also cheaper. I took all parts across the boarder to be shipped. If you ordering a lot of stuff you could drive to Niagara Falls NY and pick up. I used to order from several different places and get pick all the packages up at the same time. Combine it with a weekend getaway and you get $200 back with no taxes.
