    67 A.I.R. Tubes

The 67 judging manual indicates that the injection tubes (which mount to the exhaust manifolds) are tapered rather than crimped, and that crimped are replacements. Do we know that that was true throughout the year?
The reason I ask--in correspondence with a California friend who has a late 67 Camaro that he's had since the early 80's, and which had an absolutely unmolested AIR system, I discovered that the tubes on that car are crimped, not tapered. That car has every numbered hose, dated hose clamp, etc. from the factory. I realize that's a Camaro, but that got me wondering.
So, again, my question: were those always tapered in 67, or were some crimped, possibly later in the model year?

    Mike,

I have a complete and original A.I.R. system for a '66 and the tubes are in fact crimped. I also had an original setup for a '67 which also had crimped tubes. I believe the pictures in the factory assemblies of both years shows them crimped as well. All original systems I have seen have had crimped tubes.

I believe that both styles MAY have been used for 1967 (and, other years, too). However, the crimped syle are, by far, the predominant.

I have seen known-original cars with the crimped style tubes. Any of those that I've seen with the "tapered" style were not known-original, but that does not mean that they were not original.

I believe that the difference in the tube connection method relates to the supplier that made them---one supplier made them one way and the other made them the other way.

I do know that some of the SERVICE replacement tubes made in the 80's were of the "tapered" style. However, it may also be that they were actually used in PRODUCTION earlier on an intermittant basis.
