    C2:67 Glove Box Door

Need to change the panel in my original glove box door. I have this kit which replaces the rivets with screws. Is there any alternative to the screws which would look like the original rivets.

Jerry, I have used the kit with the allen head screws. After installation you can fuss with a drill and make them look like the original peened studs at a quick glance.

I remember telling someone how I did it and another person listening in told us they got the new panel in without drilling out the studs. He ground the new panel down a bit on the edges and was able to slide it in and rotate it to the proper position. Don't ask me how or if he got the old one out. Maybe dremmeled in pieces with a mini cutting wheel?

It might have been Gary Seymour who told me this trick. You might find his profile info if you look it up.

C2:67 Glove Box Door; don't drill out the rivets

      Jerry,

Check the archives for 15 April 2003. Scott Pfuehler describes a way to do this without drilling out the rivets. That's the key. If you don't drill them out, you don't have to recreate them.

        Jerry:

I have a copy of Bob Young's intsructions on how to replace the aluminum facing on a 64-67 glove box door without dismantling the door or destroying the rivets on the backside. If you would like a copy, please e-mail me.

Re: C2:67 Glove Box Door-Judging Guide

The 67 JG says under the Door Assembly, "Current GM replacement is detectable by the presence of a wrinkled inner surface at the outer edge"

This may be correct but my original(38 year owner) also has a slight wrinkle in the inner surface at the outer edge at both ends of the glove box door.

I think the JG is wrong to make a determination of replacement vs original based upon a wrinkled inner surface a the outer edge.

How many original glove box doors have a wrinkled inner surface at the outer edge?

            Hi Jerry,
The replacement glove boxes have wrinkles that look like a wash board. Not just a slight wrinkle.
            Love your articles.

              Those Are Not Rivets!

They are nubs, integral with the door trim potmetal casting. They are peened over, and are a one-shot deal only. When drilling them, be very careful not to remove too much material, otherwise the allen screws won't work either.
After the screws are fastened, you can "finesse" them to make them look more like original "rivets" (peened-over nubs).

                  Page,

Does this refer to the more recent manufacture doors, or to NOS doors purchased from GM say in the eighties?

                  Thanks!
