    C1 Clutch Pedal Sticking

    Hi all,

My 1960 is nearly back together and I have taken it around the block a couple of times. The problem is with the clutch pedal. When I push it to the floor it stays there and I have to pull it back up with my toes! It is as if when I push the pedal all the way down it goes past the maximum extension of the big spring and pulls a little the other way. Based on all my photos and the AIM, I think I put it back together the way it came apart. The rod ends only go one way, so the only thing on that is whether the bend is up or down, but since that won't fit on the pedal but one way (and I have the pedal set for the normal 6.5-inch travel), I am not sure what the problem is.

Hope someone can tell me something to switch for an easy fix!

(Never read about this, but does NCRS take off for having the clutch in the 4.5-inch travel position? Maybe that would work better.)

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Bob,

Only because none of the more knowledgeable people haven't responded I'll try and give this a shot. It sounds like you may have an overcentering of the clutch situation. I think this can be caused by improper components (pivot ball, fork, throwout bearing, linkage) and or their assembly/adjustment. Try checking the archives using key words " overcentering clutch ". I've never experienced this first hand but I've heard of this being an issue.

      Bob -

Have you adjusted the position of the "over-center" bracket on the clutch cross shaft where the top end of the spring attaches (determines the point where the over-center occurs and the spring changes from a return spring to an "assist" spring)? The procedure is in the ST-12.

This has always been a problem. Try removing the large spring that goes from the linkage to the frame.this will not afect the operation of the clutch. I have ran c-1 cars for 35 years from drag racing to street driving and removed them all.
