    Early 63 Frame Stencil Location

Does anybody know the correct location for the frame stencil on an early 63? I have seen some information that suggests passenger side rear, other data that says driver side rear is correct for an early 63 (Oct of 62). I know that in any case, the stencil will be applied "upside down".

The position of the stencil on my Jan built 63 is on the passenger side. According to the judging manual, this is to be the position of the stencil for all 63's. The hand written "pull" number will also appear on the passenger side in white lumber crayon.

Seth, Tough question you asked. Even if you look at the archives you will walk away scratching your head. Read Bill Sangrey's post. It's one of the better ones. Hanson's is also. At a recent show I asked some judges that particular question and did not get a consensus. Ask your team leader what is correct. He should know. Since your car is so early I bet if you put it on the drivers side it would fly. MY Early March car has it on the drivers side. The first time my car was restored there was still some evidence of the original number and it was on the passenger side. But I do believe I heard the two judges remark to one another about the frame number and location on my car. Didn't get dinged though. Don't really think there is a right answer or a wrong answer but you have to go with the flow. Once said to my restorer, David put it on both sides but he was not amused. John

        John:

Interesting info. Question for you. If your car showed evidence of the stencil on the passenger's side, why did you choose to have it restored the second time with it on the opposite side ??
