What is the current recommended source for the "argent silver greenish hue" paint? Open to either a quart or rattle can. We have a good auto body paint supplier in town here. He states that he isn't aware if a correct color source still exists. He did the argent silver with a few drops of green, on rally wheels himself, but didn't have a known un-molested wheel color to compare when he did his. thanks in advance to those who have gone before!!

AZ Rally Wheel Color
I am painting a 2nd set of AZ wheels to be the driver set for a 72. I have the original wheels un-molested for judging, so I have a color source to compare. I did the archives search, found "dated" history of paint sources,,,, but not sure it was definitive.

Re: AZ Rally Wheel Color
I'm not sure that the '72 cars still had the greenish tint, I think that was for earlier cars.- Top

Re: AZ Rally Wheel Color
Norm and Mike-----
72 used just plain argent silver. The green-tinted argent silver was used for 68-70, although some 71's might have had it, too.
The argent silver used over the years, or even in a single model year, actually varied quite a bit. I have seen original 69's with rather light argent silver. The known-originals on my 69 were MUCH darker argent silver. Some years ago I researched this issue a bit and found that, apparently, there was a fairly wide variation in the paint actually used.
Nevertheless, you can obtain argent silver paint from most of the Corvette suppliers. Another very good source is OEM Paints (www.oempaints.com). They carry both the green-tinted and normal argent silver and their paint is very high quality. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: AZ Rally Wheel Color
I don't know about 72 argent silver, but I do know that none of the popular suppliers have the darker argent silver used in 69. I have bought paint from OEM, Quantum and a local PPG store and all of the paint is much lighter than an original wheel I saw at the national NCRS in San Antonio.- Top
