Re: 72 LT1 motor pull brackets what finish ?
The one on the intake manifold is silver over orange -- it got painted with the intake as that was painted silver after the engine orange. Sometimes a wisp of orange can be seen under the silver, especially on the outboard side near the bottom. No effort was made to paint the lifting brackets especially since they were holding the engine and had the hangers in the openings at the time of the paint operation.
The one on the bell housing to cylinder case bolt is orange and natural. It caught what orange was sprayed on the back of the passenger side head, but is not well covered -- consider that on small blocks the bell housing was only lightly covered in orange near the interface with the rear of the cylinder case.Terry- Top

Very good description of
the brackets on my 37000 mile 72 LT1. The front bracket does have some silver, on the lower edges, where the bracket bolts to the manifold, but it is truly just traces of silver. The upper 75% of the bracket shows no paint at all - neither orange nor silver.
The bracket on the bell housing exhibits paint on about 50-60% of the bracket. You can tell it never got a full covering, just a quick pass of the paint gun.

Re: is the b hsng brkt common to other gm cars ?
Yes, in that there is one on other GM cars but I am not sure of the shape. I would expect that any small block built at Flint (there were other build locations) around the same time as your car would have the same rear bracket -- maybe the same front bracket as well.
There are reasonably good reproductions available for your 1972 LT1, if that is your concern. There are minor differences between the originals and the repops, but a repop is far better in judging than none at all.Terry- Top
