68-73 frames

I've seen an article in a magazine pertaining to ALL the different frames fro 53 and up. I don't rember what magazine,(Restorer??) Does anyone know of this article, or where I might find an article showing frames, differences, from 68 to 82? Is there much difference between the years 68-72, are they the same for these years, except for man/auto trans ?????? Thanks in advance

The article you may be referencing was in the July 1999 issue of Corvette Fever. It was written by Richard Newton and covered 63-82 Corvette frames.

Another good article in the same mag is in Dec 99 issue. Shows chasis repairing but not chasis comparisons.

In a nutshell, 1969-72 frames are, essentially, the same and are easily interchangeable. There are some differences with respect to 68 frames from the later years, although a 68 frame can be modified and used fairly readily.

Of course, and as you mentioned, there is the crossmember difference between automatic and manual trans equipped cars. The removeable auto trans crossmember can, however, be used for manual trans cars, albeit "incorrectly". The fixed crossmember frames cannot be used for automatic trans cars, however.
