Well I have Bob Young's instructions on changing the glove box insert without drilling the peened over studs on the back(which look like rivets), so I'm going to give it a try,
As I'm a little hesitate to cutting into my original 67 glove box door, I thought I'd practice on this one first:
This is a 64-65 glove box door I recently acquired. Since I had to order the insert, I figured I'd prep and paint it first. The insert should be in next week and that will be part 2 of this project.
Stripping the door is not very easy:
The best way I found was with lacquer thinner and steel wool, with lots of elbow grease.
Then after polishing the chrome, I masked it with painter's tape and an exacto knife:
Then hung it from a rafter and painted it both sides with semi flat dash paint:
So I'm all set next week to cut out the insert with a dremel cutter and install the new insert. Stay tuned.
Having Fun,
