If you missed the Carroll Shelby fab Fifties event this weekend in Torrance, California..you missed something very special.

Jim Gessner..Long time NCRS member and active historian helped to arrange having some great Corvettes at the Carroll Shelby Fab Fifties car show to benefit the Carroll Shelby Childrens Fund.

Included among an assortment of Ferarri's, Shelby Cobra's, and other very exotic famous race cars..were four 1957 Corvette airbox cars.

Mr. Gessner also arranged a visit to the Browning collection in Cerritos, Ca. which includes corvettes from 53 to 68..with all the 57 to 65 cars being fuelies.

As you walked into the collection..there was Dick Guldstrand, Bob Bondurant, Doug Hooper and other notable racers to talk to.

A big thank you to Jim Gessner and his group for helping to make this weekend so much fun.

Thanks for the KUDO's Joe. It was fun helping this event get off the ground.

The Fabulous 50's Club was formed about 8 years ago. It is a group of race enthusists that either raced a car, owned a race car, worked on a race team, or worked at the race tracks from 1950 thru 1959. Corner workers to flag men, to tabulators are also encouraged to come out. We meet 4 times a year, and finish the year at the Petersen Museum for the annual Holiday dinner roast of a past celebrity driver.

The group realizes that as we all age, many cross over to the race track in the sky, so this year there has been pressure to include the 60's era. (Sound NCRS familar when we only judged 53-62's). To kick it off, Carroll Shelby said he would open his old tire warehouse on Figueroa in Gardena. Art Evans and Bill Pollack and other 'not in charge' movers and shakers in the group created the Concours d'Provenance and a light BBQ luncheon.

Result, 85 old performance race cars or examples and over 500 people in attendance. Peter Miles (Ken's son)Dan Gurney, Billy Krause, Parnelli Jones, George Folmer, John Morton and others joined Carroll and Dick Guldstrand, Bob Bondurant, Davey Jordan, Doug Hooper, Joe Freitas along with many from the old school of Road Race fun days. One of the real treats was for Bert Munsell to bring his 57 'real' air box vin #6331 to the event. Bert bought the car from Jack Bates and C.S. Meade Chevrolet in 1959 and still drives the car today.

I see this event becoming a 'Sleeping Giant' new event for car guys internationally to attend as it grows with class.
