    61 parking brake alarm switch

Does anyone have a solution to a replacement for the parking Brake "alarm" switch that sits on top of the parking brake? State of Va has just decieded after 17 yrs that it needs to work to pass inspection! I understand there are no repro's available. Antique plates on the way so no inspection in the future, but it would be nice to see the brake light work!

    Thanks Much

The switch and mating clamp are rather hard items to find. You're relagated to walking swap meets or shopping Driveline ads for one, OR, going to the Corvette speciality parts suppliers like Paragon Classic, Mary Joe, or Grossmuellers to find a good used original...

      Mike -

I wonder where they came up with that one? There was no legal requirement 45 years ago to have a warning light that comes on with the parking brake. I've had numerous project cars I built from scratch safety-inspected by the County Sheriff or State Police as a requirement before registering them, and there's no item on the State form that requires a warning light - only a functional parking brake. Sounds like bureacracy gone wild

        John:

you are 100% right. strang thing is it is the same guy that has been inspecting my 61 for 10 yrs. I bet he got his wrist slapped for something else. My new Antique VA plates will solve the issue in the short term, and I will come up with something to make it work even if not 100% original
        thx, mike

          Mike,

I have exactly what you want! A Rube Goldberg e-brake switch I made using a brake light switch for my '54 before I got the real thing. Shoot me and email and I'll send you a couple of pictures.
