    62 posi unit ID

Hi, I have recently obtained a posi unit and would like some help identifying the original fitment. It is an 812 thin "P" case with a January 18,62 cast date. The opposite side shows AX1 24. The Jan 24 assembly date is clear but I don't have any reference to the "AX" code. Right now it is geared as a 4:11 unit. I know this isn't a corvette housing but I hope someone has the reference material to tell me what it's from. I have some pics on my computer but haven't figured out the URL thing yet. Thanks, Eric 31337

    Re: 62 posi unit ID

Rear axle codes are listed in the NCRS Corvette Spec Guide booklet. Unfortunately, there's no AX code listed for 1961 Corvettes and all 1962 model year Corvette axle codes begin with the letter C...

The 2-alpha code enumerates option specifics. These include transmission type (manual/automatic), with/without positraction, with/without metallic brakes and std or HD suspension.

      Eric,
AX refers to a Passenger 3rd member with 3.08 Posi, std brakes.
