Re: Convertible lid lock bezels
The one with the "screws showing" must be the result of some kind of a modification. The GM part was never attached with screws that attached through the bezel. The only reason that I could imagine that someone would do this is to "repair" a bezel with broken attachment stud(s). Since there is no practical way to re-attach a broken stud, someone might have drilled holes in the bezel and attached it with screws. Really "chintzy"! This is not even an expensive or difficult to locate part. As far as I know, they're still available from GM under part number 3918587.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Convertible lid lock bezels
Two different design rear top latches were used - all 1956's and 1957's to approximately S/N 4200 used the latch/bezel assy. with integral threaded studs; then a new part (3749530) was released, attached with two exposed chrome-plated phillips-head machine screws, flat washers, star washers, and nuts. This later part was used intermixed with the integral-stud part through the balance of 1957 production and on into 1958 and later years. The change was made releasing the screw-attached part in the A.I.M. on 5-13-57, and is shown in Section C, Sheet 1.00. My '57 (#4275) was original prior to my restoration, was built in early June, and had the screw-attached latch/bezel assemblies.- Top
