69 coupe astro-vent rear deck

Please forgive the basic nature of this query, but how exactly is the rear deck vent supposed to operate on non-AC astro-vent coupes? When I replaced my interior last fall I noticed a small metal hose running up under the center console that I assume was suposed to link up to the rear deck vent. Since I still have bigger fish to fry in terms of repairs, this isn't top of the list, but I'd like to know the basic gist of how it operates.

Shannon, This question illustrates the main reson to have a 69 assembly manuel. I believe there are two doors on the rear bulkhead that are opened by a vacuum actuator hidden behind the carpet and in the extreme rear -passenger side area. The dash control wheel controls the doors via the actuator. I believe the term GM used is "flow through ventilation". You open the front and the rear doors as you drive and the air flows through the car and exits the rear deck vents.

Hi Shannon:

Bob has it correct as usual. A combination of steel and rubber lines form a system that carries vacuums from the console heater control manifold to the rear actuators that open and close the rear doors. On AC cars these doors were blocked off.

Thanks for the tips. I've had an assembly manual on "the list" for a while, but the larger stuff has been taking priority. I'll buy one real soon, since I need to fix the interior courtesy lights as well as this rear vent.

In my 70 coupe rear vac actuator is in driver side, hoses and metal tubing connects heater control with it as Jerry stated, through central console. If I'm not wrong with convertibles, the vac actuator is at passenger side. Service manual will show a good drawing about it.
