    Re: 56 Wonderbar Radio

Go to Corvettes at Carlisle in August, get there at 7AM on Friday when the gates open up, don't get there at noon. You'll find one, but it won't be cheap.

Be aware that on '56 Wonderbars there was no "Wonderbar" on the seek button, that didn't happen until '57. I got a correct '57 Wonderbar up there that needed work, and after all was said and done, it worked perfectly after spending $2000. All for a stinking AM radio that only had talk shows and foreign language stations!!

      Re: 56 Wonderbar Radio

      Greg,

The '56's had two types of Wonderbar Radios. The first style had a tube type power supply AND the radio chassis was thicker (higher from top to bottom, the same thickness as the '55 Wonderbar). According to the meager records that I keep, '56 Corvettes with vins almost to 1600 had this style power supply, possibly later. The second Wonderbar style had a transistor power supply and the chassis case was thinner, same thickness as the '57's. Power supply was the same as found on a '57. Appearance wise both radio faces's looked identical, power supplies did not. If you just want a '56 Wonderbar radio and are not concerned with NCRS Judging, the above will be of little interest. Regards

I have a working wonderbar...but I do not have the correct power supply unit. Used one from a 56 chevy bel air and it worked with no problems.. Dave

Same here re: 56 radio. All that happens with mine is that the light goes on. I take it that the three-pronged two-wire thingamajig is for the power antenna? Doug
