    C1 Hardtop Wrench

I am trying to find a "correct" C1 Hardtop wrench for my 59. I see a lot of wrenches on eBay that people say "may be correct" but I would like more information about what is actually correct. I have heard that a correct wrench is 1/2 & 9/16ths, open ended, and says "Drop Forged" on it but that is all I know. Am I correct in thinking this? Also, I have seen wrenches with a number at one end on the opposite side from the size marking and do not understand what that number means or if I need a special number for my car. Should it also say "Made in USA" and/or be a Vlchek?

Any information you can share about this would be of great help.

    Thank you!!!!

Mine for my 62 which I know is origonal has 1/2 on one end, 9/16 on the other and DROP FORGED in between. On the other side it has MADE IN U.S.A. and a number 8 on the end that corresponds to the 9/16.

I think I got these from the archives years ago.

I suspect that the small number that is seen on the "Made in USA" side is a mold number. I have seen many different numbers on these wrenches over the years.

Although I own a 59 with a hardtop I do not have the correct wrench which makes my a little jealous but also grateful for this discussion to help me find what I need.

A side note, to the C-1 Hard Top Wrench question, is something I have been wondering about.

I believe that I remember the hard top wench was installed in the Hard Trim area during the C-2 years but I can not remember where they were installed. I then started to question my ability to remember about the wrenches and their installation location for the C-3’s.

All of this brings me to wonder about how many different types or styles of wrenches where used from the C-1’s to the C-3’s in 1975?

I am confidant that GM had more than one supplier over the 19 years that the tops where offered but who does have the answer?

Can anybody shed some light in my direction about this question? I believe that a lot of us would like to know.

                Thank You
