C-1 1960 Windshield Replacement

Hello,
During a wonderful weekend drive, my windshield took a major hit. A Concrete truck changed lanes and dropped a few rocks. Looks like this winter's budget is going for a replacement windshield. I have looked through the archives for how to step by step, books, videos or websites on windshield replacement but came up short. Does anyone know of any? I like to do my own work; it is my baby and a driver.

The 1953-62 Corvette Service Guide (available at the STORE on this web site) has step-by-step instructions for doing windshield R&R in the Body section of the book. The job's pretty straightforward albeit time consuming...

That's covered by your Corvette's insurance policy. Comprehensive coverage ("fire and theft") covers glass. There usually isn't a deductible. 'Course you won't want to bring it to where your insurance company wants you to bring it. But they'll give you most of what it costs to have a Corvette repair shop fix it.

Does the dash pad need replacing? Now's the time to do that. If the tabs on the end posts need fixing, make sure you do that. The windshield won't fit right if you don't. Broken tabs are common.

If you got the name of the concrete truck company, their liability insurance will also cover it.

The ST-12 will take you through this job. It's a difficult job. Look in the archives some more. There's info on this there.

I did a windshield weatherstrip replacement on my 57 this past summer. I will never attempt this again. This stainless trim dents very easily and its hard to get back together. This is one of the few jobs I would leave to the experts. It definitly was not worth the time or aggravation.

Is a 60 winsheild the same as a 62?

If yes there was a fellow who outlined the replacement of the glass itself pretty good.

I have a 62 and my car was completely apart when I replaced my glass so it wasn't so bad

First project is getting the assembly off the car

Next would be replacing the glass.

I will check what notes I can find on it.

When the assembly is off the car, there are a couple of things you might think of doing

1-replacing dash pad if needed
2-Having stainless molding for windshield polished if needed
3-having windshield post re-chromed if needed

If I could have paid some one to do this job when I was building my 62 I would have been thrilled, Unfortunately in our area I could not find some one who was willing to do it.

Thanks for all the info. I called a few Corvette friends to see about the ST-12 book. I also talked with the concrete company they stated how could that come from our trucks, they are always clean. Standard excuse. I have not talked with my insurance company, but I will. Thanks again.
