C1 Space at Bottom of Radiator?

    Hi all,

Someone asked me about the space between the bottom of the radiator and the radiator frame. I looked at mine and, sure enough, there is a two-inch space between the bottom of the radiator and the edge of the frame. My tank is original and I thought the core was also, but, if so, it doesn't make sense for Chevrolet worry about seals for tiny cracks around the frame bottom and then leave a two-inch gap.

So, do I need a longer core? If so, what is the correct size of the core? If not, what is the point of seals and then leaving a wide gap?

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Bob,

My 57 with original radiator has the 2" space at the bottom. Since I drive it a lot I created a seal out of the foam pipe insulation you can find at most places like Home Depot.

      This is entirely

normal. My '55 still has the original radiator support and original radiator, and is exactly as you describe. Blocking this area is not necessary, as there is no where for the air which passes through this area to go.
