Remedial Trng for C3 Front Spring Code

This may be a question for Joe Lucia or others with such knowledge, which I certainly don't have.

I have a base small block 72 Coupe/4spd & A/C. The front original springs have a green tag with load codes. The JG lists "sprung load", (which I assume are "ranges") of 0>720 and a 2nd load Over 720

    3 Questions:
    1. What do the Sprung Load numbers represent?
    2. Why are there two ranges for the same base engine/suspension setup?
    3. Were the orgininal part numbers superceded by different numbers, or did replacement springs have a different number?

Thanks in advance to those who have gone before those of us far less knowledgable!!

The "sprung load" rating means the amount of vehicle weight SUPPORTED BY THE SPRINGS which a particular spring position will encounter.

The different ranges usually represent different weight loadings which are affected by installed options on the car.

The original part number for the front springs for small blocks with C-60 was the same for all 1968 to 1971 Corvettes. It was GM #3931824. This, particular, spring was never superceded. It was discontinued without supercession.

        Norm:

Just to clarify and I'm assuming 72 green tag codes are like those of 73-82, those codes are broadcast codes that represent a part number. It's the part number that translates back to the spring loads that Joe clarified. The codes on the tags themselves are not intended to represent spring loads.

Hmmmm, not sure I know what you mean there, Tom, but if you're saying the line worker only installed an HT spring because that code was on a build sheet, and not because he thought about the vehicle spring load range, I would agree you're probably right.

            All
The green tags I have seen had a part number on them as well as the two letter code. All of this information is covered in your copy of the 1953-1982 Corvette parts and illustration cataloge.
