I will soon be rebuilding the entire brake system on my '66 (no power brakes). Ive looked around and it appears my options are "new" stainless sleeved vs. re-manufactured stainless sleeved. The kits from ecklers or CorvetteCentral.com are appealing (calipers, hoses, pads, etc) Along with the new brake line kits. Can anyone recommend a particular kit? I plan on driving the car about once a month or so, should I go with re-manufactured? It will not be a show car and I'd like to retain the factory calipers (dont want to trade them in for cores). Thanks.

Re: brake rebuild
Jeff-----
Simply have your calipers stainless steel sleeved. Most of the major brake rebuilders will provide this service, although it may cost a litle extra and will take longer than an outright purchase or exchange. After sleeving, your calipers will last as long as you're ever going to need them to last (although the pistons and seals will not necessarily last that long). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: brake rebuild
Jeff,
Buy the cheapest one's but save your originals. I think I got the kit from Corvette Central for my 67.
Then you have the time to get your originals restored.
You should have seen me trying to get 36 year old caliper bolts off from floor jacks. Finally had to use a propane torch to heat the bolts up and thought I was going to burn down the garage. Try to do it on a lift or get the jacks as high as possible for leverage on the bolts.
Got my originals packed away, just one of these days, I'll get them restored

Re: brake rebuild
Jeff,
I agree with Joe Lucia. If you're going to spend money on sleeved calipers; why not spend the money on your originals? I had Lone Star Caliper rebuild the original first series calipers for my '65. They will provide the pads at no additional charge.
Good luck on your project.
