Look at the sill plates
I was told by the Chief Inspector of the St.Louis Plant..that the pilot car sill plates were plain.
Upon inspection by Bunky Knudsen..he insisted that the indentions be painted black...and that the chrome interior parts be painted interior color.
He said the repainted chrome interior parts were losing their paint before they even left the plant.
During the interview..he asked that we turn off the camera..as he didn't want to insult Bunky...on camera.

Re: Look at the sill plates
My guess has always been that the two cars in the film were pre-pilot line hand built prototypes. Same with all the publicity photo cars that showed up in the October '62 Road and Track and other car mags - the red Convert. and silver Coupe. In fact, those two could have even been non-running mockups, and IIRC they had three-bar KO nuts. One of the most intersting "anamolies" of the two photo cars were the cowl HVAC inlets. They were part of the molded fiberglass panel, not separate bolt on parts - tach and speedo faces were different - seatbacks looked more like '64 than '63 production, the list goes on...
There are all kinds of details that differ significantly from the pilot line cars that were displayed at fall car shows.

Anyone have a link to the video of these cars at the Milford Proving grounds. I've seen it, but can't find it.Tom Hendricks
