    Engine #'s help

I just bought an engine from a friend of a friend and am trying to figure out what it came out of, hopefully somebody will be able to tell me.

Engine Block casting # 3855961 (I realize that this could be used on 66 corvettes), the deck is stamped R210276 (This should be the Vin #)and T0624IV this is what I'm trying to figure out)

Head casting number 3873858 (I realize that these could also have been used on early 66's)

    Intake Manifold casting number 3963569

Thanks in advance for your help!

IV suffix code be 65-68 396ci 325hp with a 4 bbl carb and an automatic
trans installed in a passenger car. Could also be a 69 350ci with an
auto trans installed in a taxi.

That block was used from '66 to '69 for many passenger and truck 396 & 427 applications, and those heads (which didn't come originally on that block) are rectangular-port hi-perf heads used on many '66-'67 396 & 427 solid-lifter engines. If that number is the VIN derivative, the block came out of a full-size car built at Arlington, Texas.

Intake manifold is 1970-71 LS-6 and L-78. It was used in Corvettes only for 1971 LS-6.

          Urban legend for 427

The 961 block was a 2 bolt main 396 (the 962 was the 4 bolt main). There are plenty of stories that this block was factory bored to a 427 in early 1966 model year, but has anyone really seen one? Yes, I know they may be out there now (I have one in storage) but did any of the racers see one new?
