Re: Who remembers June of 1967?

    Joe.

There were lotsa weird stuff ordered. My former boss a G.M. Dealer allways had something that was different and sold a pile of cars.

"Lots of green cars out there. I even bought a brown 74..however beautiful it was..who would order a brown car? Probably was not a customer order but some time of fleet shipment. Remember those ugly two tone beige/brown jobs on the early eighties. Ugh!"

Then again he was colour blind and what he thought they looked like and they really looked like wasn't quite the same. We were a full line G.M. Dealer and probably had the biggest percentage of odd cars in the world.

Anyone have an odd car that came from Canada ?

Let's see, green cars in 1967...how about the first year Firebird 400s that were very popular in a dark green metallic, or the following year when Steve McQueen as Frank Bullitt used a dark green, '68 390 Mustang fastback in what has been called the greatest car chase ever on film.

By the way, the last mid-year I recall seeing on a trip to Florida in 2002 was dark green with saddle interior...

HI Bill, In Dec 64 I had a new Glen Green convertible that was the world's ugliest green as I told the dealer. Primer was showing thru on the qts and the paint job was horrible. So Chevrolet agreed to repaint the entire car. I told the body shop I wanted the green to match the color on the brochure which was a beautiful green. He did so and I had the nicest "glen green" 65 around. Today I see restored 65 glen green cars and say to myself they didn't look that good when they were new. The paint jobs on the C2's were the pits. Grabiak Chevrolet, our local big Corvette dealer painted almost everyone they sold. If not the whole car a good percentage of it. Clem will back me up on this statement. One day the owners so Jr. said look at the paint on the Corvairs John. They were beautiful. But the new Corvette paint was definitely not. Had my share of new ones and not one would have passed judging standards today. John

            I Remember It Well.

If you were male and a baby boomer, biggest thing on your mind in 1967 was Vietnam.

Sometime by the middle 1970s, if you wanted a Corvette, you needed to order one early in the model year. Chevy sold all they could make. Dealers didn't stock them. The whole production run was specially ordered. If you didn't order one by December, January, or February, you weren't getting one that year. But the dealer would take your money for next year. At least, this is what the dealers said then. When did that start?

                Mike,
It's possible that it was originally ordered by another dealer and it ended up getting swapped around until it was sold in Alhambra. I don't know how Chevy worked with their dealers in those days but at my work (H-D) we are doing a lot of dealer trading these days and sometimes end up with odd things. Eric

Re: Who remembers June of 1967?

In June of 1967, my Navy roommate ordered the present 67 that I have. It came off the line on June 29 and he took delivery of it on July 15. In June of 67, it was known that the body style was going to change for 1968. I think my roommate wanted to get the last of the StingRays, and take advantage of more favorable dealer pricing at the end of the production year. Remember the ads "making room for the new models"

Though he picked Marina Blue, green was a popular color during those times. I remember the MG's and other foreign sports cars with the popular color of British Racing Green.

67 vettes were a tought sell because the

insurance payment a month was more than the car payment. i could not sell my 66 427 till 68 because of this. i NEVER liked the shark looks so i bought Z-28s after that

                      Clem,

That's the same way I remember it. Seems like people weren't nearly as interested in 67 as they were in 63-66. Not sure if it was the car itself or just the changing times. Also, as you mentioned, this was just about the exact time insurance rates went through the roof.

I remember a few 67's that sat at a local dealer for quite a while before finally being sold after the 68's were out. I think everyone was waiting for that Mako Shark car to arrive so 67 sales dropped. I also remember that when the 68 did finally arrive, many were disappointed because it didn't look at all like the Mako car that we all saw at the auto shows and in the magazines the year before.

I too changed direction in 68 and bought a new Z-28.

How quickly we forget, or take today's trends and apply them to the times 40 years ago.l

British Racing Green and Saddle interior was THE HOT combination back then. It wasn't the "kiss of death", as others have said. I don't know where/how that started. I still like BRG/Saddle cars.

Ah yes, I had a glen green '65, my first mid-year, also remember Corvette paint, bought a new '74 and the dealer saw it on the truck and sent it to his body shop for a complete repaint before he called me to pick it up, and that was a WHITE car!

Must have been pretty good then because my car was built June 12, 1967.

Clem, I remember exactly when you switched from Vettes to Camaro's. Remember your new car on the end stall parked next to the show room. Right?
Also remember that I could not give my 68 BB away in 1971. Sold it for nothing. NO insurance for sure. Our companies would not take the car. I got cancelled several times. Maybe the drag racing on Rt 30 had something to do with it though. heeeee John

Michael, Worst car I ever owned was my early early 68 BB. Nothing ever worked. Things broke all the time. Car ate headlite switches. Finally Timmy said to me (mechanic at the garage) Better keep a spare switch cause you got wiring problems. I said that was exciting. One night it was really freezing and I went to open the door and the cheep interior door handle broke in half. Here's a good one. Had a pretty blond out and we were riding along Rt 30 and I went thru a big puddle of water and she got drenched. Heeee.. That was the last date. She was so mad. Still liked the car cause it had a 50,000 mile warranty. Needed it for sure. Jr.
