C2 Correct tire pressure decal for a 67?

I have been told that the decal in the picture (Part No. 3888750) is for a 66 and not a 67. This decal was on the glove box door of my 67 when I got it in 68 and has been untouched since.

I recently ordered a replacement from CC, and it is different and with a part number of 3910795. Could there be a mistake in the Judging Guide and listed part number, or could it be that they ran out of 67 decals on my late (22049) 67 and used a 66 one.

If you have an original 67 decal on yours, could you please check whether it is #3888750 or #3910795, especially if you have a late VIN.

    Jerry,

Probably not much help but my mid-production run '67 label has the 3910795 number.

        Jerry,

They must of stocked the new ones on top of the old ones. By the time they got to your car it was at the top of the pile. That's your original leave it.

          Jerry -

My June car (#20401) has the 3910795; that's the part shown in the Assembly Manual, which is shown in the revision block to have replaced decal #3888750 on 7/26/66 ('67 start of production was September 1st).

I think you are right , Kevin

Here's a picture of my real original, next to a correct repro for my 67:

The 67 Judging Guide concedes that "Very early production cars may use a round tire pressure label, part number 3888750" It should read "Very early or very late production cars ..............."

So I'm going to keep my original as it came out of the factory. When I repaint the back of the door, I'll mask the decal and paint around it. Woe to the judge, who gives me originality points off on this decal. Only kidding, it's really all for the fun,...and history, anyway.

But Keith Biggers, I think you will have an email on this post.

                And plus

the original decal has that smokey look, and probably that smokey smell, that only Dick Whittington can recognize as an original.

Looked at mine it's 795 Dec car. But there is no way yours has been changed, so keep it. Just like my AC fan blade came with the car so I'm keeping it don't care what the JG says.

John, Do you have any idea what the "P" stood for in the bow tie? It is very unusal to see anything printed within the bow tie form Chevrolet.............dealers did it all the time with their promotional material, but Chevrolet considered it sacred ground and didn't ususally put anything there.

My '69 coupe had '68 air vent knobs made of plated metal vs. the '69 round black plastic type. Also, it had a 1968 grille-silver edges vs. black! These were all original as I bought the car from the original owner with less than 9000 mi.So yes, there are many strange things in the Corvette world!

It's the same as the one on the right, but the "HOT" and the two numbers below it are in red.

The "P" is probably for "Passenger"; truck stickers of the era probably had a "T" inside the bowtie.

                            Re: And what's more

Jerry - I've seen two other examples of early '67s having a '66 tire pressure label on the glovebox door, and there is no reason to think your's is not the original knowing how long you have had the car. I'm with you don't change it, if you believe it's original to the car.

And remember, inventory control wasn't one of their strong suites back in the 60s. While I don't know in the sequence of things when the tire pressure label was applied, I'm sure that getting the "corect" tire pressure label on the back of the glovebox door wasn't nearly as important as getting the car out the door so the General could make $s. And what the heck both glovebox doors were identical from the outside.

What's more most owner's won't notice it until almost 40 years later when they go to have their car judged by some organization that hadn't even been founded when the car was built. And you thought those guys on the production line back then didn't have a sense of humor.

                            Have fun. Pete
