68 vent control set up observation.

You know, on page E5 of the 68 assembly manual it shows the thing called the housing assembly. I have had several of these over the years and taken a few out of cars. But I have never seen the guides as described in the assembly manual attached to them. The guide is part number 9342780. I suspect it helped prevent rattle noise and friction?? Anyone every see these things installed in an actual car?? I have never ever seen them in a corvette. Opinions and observations are welcome. Terry

    Terry:

Can you be more specific with respect to the page number in the 68 AIM? The UPC# and Sheet# would help.

UPC #1 page E5. I have never seen those little plastic guides installed on a corvette, even though it is listed in the assembly manual???

My assembly manual shows no "guides". What am I missing here?

I am looking at the structure of the shifter console. Is that what you are looking at? terry

It is item number 9. Maybe our manuals are different?? The page shows the shifter console assembly, the shifter plate, the metal bracket with the levers that control the vents and the reinforcement for the front of the padded console. Let me know if you find it. I might just post a picture. Terry

Item #5 (Front Console Assembly) appears to have two "pins" that slip into holes in Item #7 (Reinforcement). Is this what you're talking about?

We appear to have different drawings UPC1 E5! My drawing has a note in the revision block stating that the drawing has been revised.

Close. We are on the same page. The item is #4 (housing asm) and it shows what looks to be little plastic guides (item #9). I have never seen them in any car?? Terry

Mine has several notes of revisions. I can't make out the last revision date but I can see one that says 1-16-68. I will try to scan it into my computer and post This may take a while. Terry

Wow, there is no Item #9 on my drawing! The last item I see is Item #7.

Cool! Just goes to show you that things were happening back then. I have the picture scanned. I will up load it and post it to here. Hold tight. The little parts must have been to prevent the vent knobs from rattling and grinding on the bezel. Terry

My one-owner 71 coupe has three of the four guides. The fourth was originally m.i.a.

                              Henry,

Loading these pictures is a pain. I have a nice computer but I am on a dial up and my computer drags. Plus, my short term memory sucks so I get lost in my computer all the time
